Activity Introduction

Quick summary: In this activity students watch two clips from the movie The Earth Wins. One clip shows some of the effects of Hurricane Katrina while the other shows some of the effects of the Black Saturday bush fires. Students answer a series of questions about the clips and then move on to researching the effects of a range of natural disasters on a variety of issues.

  • Students understand how people respond to natural disasters.

  • Reflect on their learning to propose individual and collective action in response to a contemporary geographical challenge, taking account of environmental, economic and social considerations, and predict the expected outcomes of their proposal (ACHGS054)
