VOLVO has stunned the world by unveiling a beautifully-designed solar pavilion for its new hybrid electric model.

The famously-safe car manufacturer has released pictures of its V60 model, complete with the stylish pavilion, called PURE Tension, that folds into the boot, Wired reports.

The solar charger has solar panels fixed to a carbon fibre frame and mesh surface, and folds down to about the size of a folded tent.

It was designed by LA-based agency Synthesis Design + Architecture.

It takes about 12 hours to fully charge the car from UV light when the pavilion is unfolded.

But you can’t get one for yourself. Not yet, anyway.

Designer Alvin Huang told Wired there were no current plans to make the pavilion commercially available – the design will be officially launched in Rome in September.
