Activity Introduction

Quick summary: This activity is based on Bluey, Season 2, Piggy Back. It uses intentional teaching strategies to focus on the capability of mindfulness. Children will take part in easy mindfulness activities that help them focus and enjoy experiences. These include activities to help to slow down breathing and activities around heading outside to find natural objects.

This is an official Bluey lesson that celebrates the joy and curiosity of Bluey and allows children to build social and emotional intelligence and develop oral language skills. Most of all it has been designed to inspire creativity and imagination in your children!

Part A: Watch Bluey 

Step 1. Begin by watching the Bluey episode Piggy Back.

You can watch this episode on ABC iView or through Enhance TV.

Piggy Back synopsis: The Heelers take a long riverside walk but Bingo’s legs are tired and she wants a piggyback. To distract her, Mum and Dad invent fun games to get her little legs moving again.

Step 2. Once the episode has finished, take a few minutes to talk about what children noticed in the episode.

It is important for children to discover themes and lessons from the episode for themselves. It is open to their interpretation, and they cannot be wrong in terms of what they felt or gathered from the episode.

'I see, I think, I feel and I wonder…' questions are a positive way to engage children to reflect on their learning.
