Activity Introduction
Quick summary: In this activity, children make jewellery and/or masks out of natural materials and understand that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples may use natural materials to make masks and jewellery.
This activity is designed to give you an understanding of how to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into activities at your centre and to help you build your confidence in exploring this topic with children and families.
This activity forms part of the Caring For Country: Introductory Lessons and Themed Activities. It is recommended that you complete the Introductory Tuning in Lessons in this unit before sharing the Themed Activities with children.
Resources required:
- Natural materials that are suitable for mask or jewellery making, such as leaves, feathers, small pieces of soft bark, grasses, gum nuts.
- Additional materials for mask making – template, cardboard, scissors, glue or tape
- Additional materials for jewellery making – string, scissors, tape, glue
- Mask Template (or make your own designs)
