Module: The Arctic, Antarctica and Greenland

Year levels: 9 and 10

Activity details: Through class discussion students are asked to think about how climate change will affect the Polar Regions, and what the impacts will mean for the rest of the planet.

Key lessons of activity: Global warming is predicted to have the greatest affect on the Polar Regions, and this may affect all life on earth.

Learning goals for this activity include:

1. Identify key physical geographical and environmental conditions of the Arctic, Antarctica and Greenland.

2. Communicate effectively in fair and considered class-wide discussion on issues.

3. Demonstrate the ability to read, evaluate and interpret information about the issues.

Indoor or outdoor activity: Indoor

Duration of activity: 15 mins

Learning areas addressed: English, Geography, Sustainability.

Teacher input: Lead students on a discussion around global warming in the Polar Regions.

Resources needed: Writing materials, Internet access.

Before beginning the class discussion ask your students to read the section on ‘The Arctic, Antarctic and Greenland’ (Years 9 and 10) on the Our Cool Schools site.

Once completed ask the students to engage in a discussion on the following questions:
