Activity Introduction

Our time is precious. There are only 24 hours in the day, and nearly a third of that is spent sleeping! If we want to get important things done, we have to commit to spending time on them each day. Sometimes, to make time for what is important, we have to sacrifice time spent doing other things. Do you even know where you’re spending your time? Well, it’s time to find out. Complete a timetable of your day, and look for time you could put to better use.

This is a good activity for kids to complete independently.

Ideal for: Upper Primary Ages 7 – 12

Tips for Parents and Carers

Wealth isn’t just about how much money or fancy items you have. Time and health are often much more valuable to us than money or material goods. Engage in a conversation with your children about how they currently manage their time and whether they feel they’d love to have more time to spend on different activities than they are currently. Time management doesn’t come naturally and needs to be taught and practised. Help your child create some routines and schedules and make sure they’re not overcommitting to getting too much done. Aim for easy wins.

Part A: Collecting Data

Step 1. Think about how you spend your time on an average day. Note down what you think you spend most time doing. How long do you think you spend on this activity during a whole week?

Step 2. Record what you do throughout the day, from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. You might like to fill the chart in every few hours or keep track of things as you go.
