Sometimes the best activities can come from your own backyard. Gather some objects from nature and trace them to make shapes. Then match the shapes with the objects. This activity is great for stimulating memory and problem-solving and just good fun!

Some kids will be able to work on this activity with minimal help.

Tips for Parents and Carers

Help your kid/s trace the objects initially and go over which shapes match with the objects as you go. Is it skinny and long? Wide and small? This will give them something to think back on when matching them independently.

Trace And Match - Activity Instructions

Sometimes the best activities can come from your own backyard. Gather some objects from nature and trace them to make shapes. Then match the shapes with the objects. This activity is great for stimulating memory and problem solving and just good fun!

Part A: Trace

Step 1. Collect a variety of leaves and objects (such as rocks, sticks and gumnuts) from your backyard or as you go for a walk with your parent/caregiver. The leaves and objects should be very different in size and shape. 

Step 2. Place a leaf onto a piece of paper and trace around it. Repeat until you have many different outlines on the same page. 

Part B: Match

Step 1. Once you have finished tracing all your leaves and objects, put your objects to one side. 

Step 2. Match the leaves and objects to the right shape on the paper.
