Activity Introduction

Quick summary: Each student decides how he or she would like to help the plants and animals that live around them to survive. Students make a promise that can apply in their home and at school.

Introduction

Students express what interested them most whilst applying what they have learned during the unit of work by making some simple conservation promises.

Activity

Discuss what a promise is. Ask students to give examples of promises.

Review the activity, ‘How can we help plants and animals?’, with students.

Explain to students that they will write what they promise to do to help plants and animals. In their promise they will explain how they will help. One or more promises can be completed for school and a separate promise can be completed for home, where students have more control over their environment.

Using separate sheets of paper for the school and home, students start with:

  • They then illustrate their promise or promises.

Decide how students would like to share their promises, in small groups or to the entire class.
