Cool Australia was in attendance at the Sustainability Fair at international award-winning Bentleigh Secondary College on 26 March. Jason Kimberley and Thea Nicholas presented the new Cool Australia website with its improved functionality to teachers and students.
This was one of three Sustainability Fairs hosted by CERES and VAEE – the next are on Monday 22nd April at Epping Views Primary School and Tuesday 23rd April at Croydon Hills Primary School. For the Sustainability Fair at Bentleigh, 162 students and 70 teachers from Southern Metro Schools (Grade 4 upwards) came along, and 44 businesses were represented.
The Sustainability Fair was a brilliant combination of teacher and student workshops, performances, high energy interactive stalls and a fabulous guided tour. Students impressively ran their own presentations. The Bentleigh SC students conducted the guided tours of their school’s sustainability projects. The focus was on what schools and their students are doing to make their environments more sustainable.

The fair was at least as successful for the students as it was for their teachers. From their feedback it was clear that these students have a growing confidence in their leadership skills in their school communities. They are keen to experience new ideas and try to introduce them into their schools.
Bentleigh SC has a new purpose built meditation centre. It was great to see how students instantly comprehended the concept and that many of them wanted something similar in their schools.
We would highly recommend that you and your students participate in this lively and stimulating day of learning and exchange. Check out the website for further details on the Sustainability Fairs coming soon: https://sustainability.ceres.org.au/
