The 19 year old treated students from Vaucluse and Bondi public schools to a special visit last Wednesday, as part of Enviroweek celebrations.
“The challenge this week is creating habits for the future,” Watson said.
“It’s our future that we’re protecting and this is the way we’re going to have to live.”
While Watson pledged to take shorter showers, students agreed to start composting, create worm farms or buy chickens.
“Lots of them were very keen on growing food which I think is a lovely idea,” she said.
“It doesn’t matter whether it’s walking to school or turning the TV off.”
While her focus last week was on the environment, Watson said she loved spreading the message that young people could do whatever they set their mind to.
“You really don’t have to be anyone special to achieve something amazing,” she said.
“I was scared of the water but I sailed around the world.”
