Jump Rope for Heart is the Heart Foundation’s ready-made fundraising and skipping program that helps primary school students move more and have fun, whilst raising vital funds for heart research, patient support and programs that help save lives.
Over the last 38 years, over 10 million Aussie kids have skipped their way to a healthier heart.
We’ve developed 24 lessons in partnership with Jump Rope for Heart: 12 of these you’ll find below and the other 12 you’ll be able to find over on Jump Rope for Heart’s website here.
How to Participate
Jump Rope for Heart can help primary schools meet the mandatory weekly requirements for student participation in sport and physical activity. It also encourages students to build a positive attitude towards exercise, healthy eating and heart health. To participate please follow the steps below:
- Register your school at jumprope.org.au/teachers
- Register your students. Parents can register their children at jumprope.org.au/parents
- Receive your free skipping kit
- Ask other teachers to promote the program in their classes
- Choose your start date and Jump Off (finish) date
- Start skipping and fundraising to help save Aussie hearts

Foundation to Year 6 Education Resources

Healthy Hearts
Foundation to Year 2
HPE
Get young students thinking about their hearts and their health. Start by playing a fun mime game about daily healthy activities, then exploring the basics of the heart’s function in the body.

What’s For Lunch?
Foundation to Year 2
Health, Arts
In this lesson, students examine what lunchboxes look like from different parts of the world, and learn how to use healthy eating patterns as a guide for making up their own lunchbox.

Partner Skipping
Years 3 & 4
English, HPE
Students explore giving and receiving directions. They will learn to perform intricate partner skipping techniques, requiring strong verbal communication skills and trust in one another.

Skipping Experiments
Years 3 & 4
HPE, Science, Maths
In this lesson, students use their scientific minds to explore how to make skipping most effective and efficient. They make a hypothesis, conduct experiments, and present their findings visually.

Rhythm Of My Heart
Years 5 & 6
HPE
This lesson familiarises students with the physiological function of the heart when it experiences a cardiac event, commonly known as a heart attack. Students will then undertake an investigation of the DRSABCD method for responding to medical emergencies.

Healthy School Strategy
Years 5 & 6
HPE, Maths
Students become ambassadors for change in the health habits of their school. They survey members of their school community and audit their school’s practices in order to create an informed strategy for how to make their school healthier.

Quitting Is Cooler
Years 5 & 6
English, HPE
Students investigate the impact of smoking and tobacco use on the body. They explore the powerful role of the media in the promotion and prevention of smoking. They consider how they could influence people to quit smoking.

Jump Rope Rhythm
Years 5 & 6
Dance, HPE, Music, Arts
This lesson helps students take their skipping skills to the next level, introducing advanced skipping techniques along with style and presentation elements. They explore skipping techniques that make more dynamic and visually impressive sequences.
