This unit has been developed in conjunction with the AFLW in celebration of the advancement of women in sport and the promotion of equal opportunity for all people in all facets of life.
In 2015, AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan announced that the AFL would launch a national women’s competition, fast-tracking plans from 2020 to 2017. This wasn’t only a courageous moment for the game and the wider sports industry, it opened a new world for the 350,000 girls and women who were playing the game at a grassroots level. And even more, it signaled a new direction of the game – one that was more progressive, inclusive and open to change.
These HPE lessons explore key themes showcased in the AFLW ‘Our Stories’ vlog-doc: ‘A New Hero – Sabrina Frederick-Traub’.
