Developed in partnership with the film Dying To Live, this H&PE 7-10 unit has has been designed to assist student understanding of a current social issue and to encourage students to think about the conversations, personal qualities and actions that occur to improve community health and wellbeing.

This unit focuses on two interconnected topics: personal qualities and strategies for having difficult conversations, and the community issue of organ and tissue donation. Students will learn about personal qualities and strategies through clips from the documentary Dying To Live, and will apply their learning by creating a script for a difficult conversation with their families about organ and tissue donation. They will also explore the topic of organ and tissue donation through a barometer activity, jigsaw activity, and project-based learning. The unit culminates in a class discussion about key ideas and feelings raised throughout the lesson.
