Developed in partnership with the film Dying To Live, this Year 9 Science unit has been designed to assist students in understanding a real world issue through the investigation of body systems and scientific claims. Students are given opportunities to explore the respiratory and urinary systems and common misconceptions of organ and tissue donation using scientific processes.
The unit explores the complex issue of organ and tissue donation and transplantation in Australia using key messages from the documentary film Dying to Live. The film aims to raise awareness of the social, physical and emotional effects of being on the organ donor waiting list and dispel myths about organ and tissue donation.
Cool Australia, Aquarius Productions and Intrinsic Story would like to acknowledge the generous contributions of GoodPitch² Australia, Shark Island Institute, and Documentary Australia Foundation in the development of these teaching resources.
