Who We Are: Brave New Clan is a series of films developed CAAMA Productions (Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association) and Reconciliation Australia in partnership with Foxtel that follow the lives of six exceptional young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who share stories about their communities, histories and cultures in contemporary Australia.

In the film Culture, the six young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders describe what Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures means to them and to their families. Their reflections provide an insight into how essential language and stories are to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and also highlight the importance of passing on generational knowledge to keep culture alive.

In this unit, students watch and reflect upon the Who We Are: Brave New Clan film Culture. This film and unit has been been designed to align with the organising ideas of the Australian Curriculum’s cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures - Culture (OI.4, OI.5 and OI.6).

Throughout this unit students will look at the influences of culture, community, family, kinship, spirituality, history and contemporary Australian society on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Further information about the films and topics covered can be found here:
