Developed in partnership with the Foundation for Young Australians, this set of lessons guides students to explore the inquiry question “what does it take to succeed in life and work?”. The activities in each lesson address the Work Studies learning area of the Australian Curriculum. Students connect to life beyond school whilst developing further a range of soft skills including: problem solving, self-promotion, communication, self-awareness, resilience and the importance of body language. These are transferable skills that enable young people to engage with a complex world and navigate the challenges they will inherit. They’re not just for entrepreneurs; they are skills that are required in many jobs. They have been found to be a powerful predictor of long-term job success.
WOW helps students to better understand:
- Themselves in the context of work.
- Transferable enterprise/21st century skills, why they’re important and how to develop and demonstrate these skills.
- The impact of the changing nature of the workplace with a focus on current and future industry trends.
- The value of community networks in helping to navigate careers information and pathways.
